- 13-9 THERE IT IS! A break of 69 sees Day over the line! The defending champion is out!
- 12-9 ...BUT AMAZINGLY, HIGGINS LEAVES IT IN THE JAW! It looked simple, but the defending champion over-cuts it, and that is surely frame and match to Day!
- 12-9 ...he makes 48, all reds and blacks, before attempting to take a difficult red along the rail...leaving it in the jaws!
- 12-9 STUNNING! Day bends the white around the yellow to knock a red into the corner...and he somehow manages to get on the black in the process...
- 12-9 Higgins immediately leaves a red over the corner...Day knocks it in to seal the frame...he's just one away from knocking the defending champion out at the second-round stage...
- 11-9 ...DAY ON THE BRINK OF ANOTHER! The Welshman makes 48 to move 62 clear with just 59 on...
- 11-9 A superb long red from Higgins, played all-or-nothing with stun to hold for the pink fashions an opening for the defending champion...and he makes a fine 83 to clinch the frame and go into the mid-session break 11-9 down...
- 11-8 Day makes another 46 to seal the frame...82-6..there are still four reds left, but Higgins spurns the chance for some practice as he concedes...
- 10-8 Higgins at full stretch misses another one, a tight cut into the corner...Day has a 36-6 lead and is back in the balls again...
- 10-8 ...Day does well to polish off the final reds...fire home a long yellow followed by the green...and seals the frame...two in front now...
- 9-8 Higgins does well to move smoothly to 30...but then misses a simple red into the corner after slightly over-stretching...Day fires home the opening red...
- 9-8 Day makes 49 before a poor positional shot means he has to take on a tough red into the middle...he misses...Higgins comes to the table, but he has to make something happen here...

- 8-8 Day ensures they will start the final session level at 8-8 with a wonderful break of 93....it's been a fine comeback today by the Welshman, and makes it very interesting tomorrow...
- 8-7 ...Day can't fight back, Higgins adds another 30 points to clinch the frame and move in front...real rollercoaster this one...
- 7-7 Higgins makes 54 before running out of available reds and playing safe...Ryan takes on a difficult long red...he misses, although leaves nothing obvious...
- 7-7 Higgins flexes his muscles with a quite superb break of 99 to level the scores again...
- 7-6 Day makes 61...and Higgins refuses the chance to try and wear him down with snookers...he concedes, and Day has moved in front...fine effort...
- 6-6 Day makes 26 before failing...but Higgins can't take advantage, and the Welshman levels at 6-6...fine fightback fom Day in the first half of this second session...
- 6-5 A fine clearance of 82 takes Ryan Day to the third frame of the day, cutting the lead to just one frame...Higgins won't want to go into the mid-session break on level terms...
- 6-4 Higgins makes 43 - all reds and blacks - before sloppily running out of position on the one available red sticking out from the pack...
- 6-4 Day steps up to nick the 10th frame late on against Higgins...it was all a bit scrappy, but the Welshman gritted it out.
- 6-3 Higgins takes the opening frame of the session, clinching the final red after a loose safety from Day...
- 5-3 The players are out, the introductions are complete, and the matches are underway...

- 5-3 And DAY wraps up the final frame of the evening to finish trailing 5-3. Quite a turn-around from the Welshman, who looked dead and buried at the mid-session interval. HIGGINS was hugely impressive at the outset, but faded and began to make too mistakes towards the end. He will feel he's let his opponent off the hook here. - 5-2 DAY has the initiative in the final frame of the evening. He leads 61-1 and HIGGINS will need to take all the reds with blacks and the colours to come back here. DAY with a chance...he misses a red, but leaves the cue ball safe.
- 5-2 HIGGINS finally takes it, a frame that neither player seemed able to win.
- 4-2 Mistake from DAY, and HIGGINS gets a chance...but he too fails to close the frame. DAY needs snookers. He has one.
- 4-2 Interesting. HIGGINS with an uncharacteristic mistake and DAY now has a chance to make it 4-3. Four reds remaining.
- 4-2 HIGGINS with a brief break. DAY gets to the table, but his safety shot is loose. HIGGINS has a great chance here, the reds are skattered invitingly with both the black and pink in play.
- 4-2 Cagey stuff at the start of the sixth frame, before a string of errors from HIGGINS allow DAY to pull back to 4-2.
- 4-1 DAY has a frame! That's more like it. The Welshman looked relaxed and confident there. 4-1.
- 4-0 We're back after a short break, and DAY is trailing 25-21, but he's at the table.

- 3-0 HAIL THE KING! 57 and still potting. Ryan DAY must be wishing he had an extra shredded wheat this morning.
- 3-0 DAY can't grab his chance, and the snooker machine is back in the balls. Thirty-one so far. Odds against a fourth consecutive half-century?
- 3-0 HIGGINS is human after all. He pots a long red but the cue ball speeds gleefully into the bottom left pocket. Come on Mr DAY, make a match of this now!

- 2-0 HIGGINS glides to his third half-century in three frames. Slick stuff.
- 2-0 DAY gets going, but misses a basic red on 32, to allow HIGGINS to the table. When I say basic, I personally wouldn't have sunk it, but then I don't get paid to play snooker.
- 2-0 DAY can't capitilise and HIGGINS takes a 2-0 lead. It all seems rather straightforward so far for the world number one.
- 1-0 HIGGINS has his second successive half-century break, and is looking really really sharp. He runs out of position and plays safe on 53. But not safe enough. DAY has his first real chance.
- 1-0 DAY fouls and HIGGINS is on the board. He's got plenty of work to do, with seven of the reds tightly bunched below the pink.
- 1-0 HIGGINS wraps up the opener, and it's a cagey start to the second frame. No pots yet, and we're five minutes or so in.
- 0-0 The break finishes on 96 for HIGGINS, and the frame is his. DAY comes to the table for a little more than a practice, but misses and will now watch HIGGINS clear up.
- 0-0 HIGGINS in superb early form - ominous for DAY. He's motored to a half-century and looks set to clear up. As a statement of intent, it's pretty impressive stuff.
